![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There are multiple occasions before his marriage to Aria that are touched on and after his engagement, of course there was an age gap and she was so young so it would be unrealistic not to expect there to be others but still. If you are sensitive to the Hero being with anyone other than the heroine, there are lots of scenes that show how Luca was introduced to sex. Yes you do get his childhood, his dealings with his father and his relationship with Matteo, details which Aria was never privy to but it is the same story from his POV. When I originally read Luca and Aria's story I really wanted Luca' s POV but I don't know I think I would have been happier with an odd chapter than a reread of the whole story. It also deals with Grace, the not so pleasant other woman that caused issues with Luca and Aria, in their marriage and her history with Luca. It starts with Luca as a child and jumps through his childhood, revealing the cruelty of his father and the violent life he was exposed to and immersed in. ![]() ![]() Harry has been through a lot but this may be his biggest challenge yet. ![]() This is the thirteenth book in The Dresden Files series which does need to be read in order. This book answered a lot of my questions and left me asking new ones. Harry was in a very bad spot and I have to admit that I was a little worried about him. Worse still are the malevolent shadows that roam Chicago, controlled by a dark entity that wants Harry to suffer even in death. Trapped between life and death, he learns that his friends are in serious trouble. And after someone puts a bullet through his chest and leaves him to die in the waters of Lake Michigan, things really start going downhill. In his life, Harry's been shot, stabbed, sliced, beaten, burned, crushed, and tortured. ![]() Published by Penguin Audio on April 21, 2015Ĭhicago wizard Harry Dresden gets a taste of the dead life in this novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series. ![]() ![]() ![]() For more along this line, try Nix's later novel: Shade's Children. Arcane, from the book’s full title, is perhaps a good example. Silver-work is a complicated process, but I’ll do my best to explain it:īecause it’s reliant on translation, the process starts with a word whose meaning changes through its transformation across cultures. It takes the approach of showing highly advanced science as indivisible from magic, a trope that I am no small fan of. These fictional qualities of silver turns this story that almost reaches the level of fantasy, though it never quite crosses the threshold. In this world, etymological translation has a very real power that, when inscribed upon bars of silver, can cause tangible effects in the world by fusing the difference in definitions. ![]() ![]() The flashiest and narratively most important track is in silver-working.
